Planning a Surprise Proposal at Studland Beach

The planning began several weeks before the proposal itself.

Pavel contacted me with his vision of creating a romantic and intimate proposal on the Dorset coast. Working together with a talented local florist, we discussed locations, timings, logistics, and all the little details that would make the moment feel effortless while remaining completely secret.

One of the reasons we chose Studland Beach was its incredible scenery and peaceful atmosphere. Located just across the water from Sandbanks and accessible via the famous Sandbanks Ferry, it offers some of the most breathtaking coastal views in Dorset.

A Beautiful Dorset Sunset Proposal

The evening couldn't have been more perfect.

As the sun began to lower over the coastline, the beach was bathed in warm golden light. The soft colours, gentle sea breeze, and stunning views across Poole Harbour created the perfect backdrop for such an important moment.

While Ana enjoyed what she believed was simply a beautiful evening walk along the beach, Pavel was carrying one of the biggest secrets of his life.

The anticipation, excitement and nervous energy were all part of the story.

Then came the moment everything changed.

The Proposal

One of my favourite things about photographing proposals is that no reaction can ever be planned.

The emotion is completely real.

When Pavel got down on one knee, Ana's reaction was filled with surprise, happiness and genuine emotion. These are the moments that deserve to be remembered forever.

As a proposal photographer in Dorset, my approach is always documentary and unobtrusive. Rather than interrupting the experience, I allow couples to remain fully present while I quietly capture every smile, embrace and emotional reaction as it unfolds naturally.

The result is a collection of photographs that tell the story exactly as it happened.

Engagement Photos at Studland Beach

After the proposal, we spent some time exploring the beach together and creating a relaxed engagement session at Studland Beach while the sunset continued to provide the most incredible light.

These are always some of my favourite photographs because the excitement is still fresh. The proposal has just happened, emotions are running high, and couples are simply enjoying being together without worrying about the camera.

Rather than stiff posing, I encourage natural movement, conversation and genuine interaction, creating photographs that feel elegant, timeless and authentic.

The combination of sandy beaches, rolling dunes, dramatic coastline and views towards Old Harry Rocks makes Studland Beach one of the best locations for engagement photography in Dorset.
